My most recent music-related rabbit hole has been learning what I can, when I can, about the rich history of electronic music (one great source is this one). Some of my armchair discoveries surfaced on recent episodes of my weekly radio show (this episode) and/or posts on the Alloy website (here and here). A more recent find/discovery occurred while I was looking for a few electronic music texts on ebay, historical volumes mostly (none purchased, yet), when I bumped into this vinyl(!) gem from Nonesuch Records. One look at the cover and I was immediately hooked, more than hooked, I purchased the darn thing! As a designer I was immediately smitten with the layered and abstract design of the box set's cover. It is everything I like about art of this style/genre. I can't wait for it to arrive so I can see it firsthand in real color, real time. I anticipate that it will inspire me to create art/design in the style of, what I think, is a perfect cover for the genre. The recorded content is not lost on me, but it is easy to listen to via other channels. This experience, for me, is cover art driven for sure. But rest assured, as soon as this package arrives I will fire up my turntable to get the full experience and transport myself to a time when album art, boxed set contents, and the music were one whole music experience.
