Music Trifecta

Frank Sinatra and Caetano Veloso

Three is the magic number this week. This week's show will feature extended sets of music in three different directions. One part of the trifecta, the first leg of the tripod, so to speak, is Frank Sinatra. If you did not know it already, Frank Sinatra's 100th birthday was on December 12th and the airwaves across the globe have been filled with Sinatra tributes. Though a contrarian by nature, I could not miss an opportunity to play and share several of my favorite Sinatra tunes—less heard gems. Happy birthday, "France Albert of Sinatra."

The second part of the trifecta, the second leg of the tripod, represents this week's music-related "rabbit hole"—a long overdue revisit to David Byrne's (yes, that David Byrne) excellent Brazilian compilation, "Brazil Classics Volume 1: Beleza Tropical." Perhaps the unseasonably warm temps this week had me thinking of warmer music. It may also be the positive and festive vibe (not unlike holiday music) that permeates Brazilian rhythms and melodies that had me enraptured this week. I will dip and dive into several highlights from this not exhaustive, but exceptional collection of Brazilian classics.

Finally, holiday music will be woven into the grand mix of this week's show. Alloy-flavored holiday tunes along with some new non-holiday tracks will comprise the final part of the trifecta, the third leg of the Alloy music tripod.

Lend an open ear and listen live on Tuesday at 9AM, if you can. As always, if you miss the live Alloy show this week you can always catch the all-music, 24/7 “Alloy” station. Want more "Alloy" on your mobile device? Listen to "Alloy: A Mixture of Music and Conversation," the premier episode of Alloy's new podcast featuring bassist, composer, and recording artist, Chris Lightcap.

Thanks for listening!
