Mix (playlist #141)

"mix" by gbmediadesign

Way back when, I chose the name “Alloy” for my radio show because, among other reasons, it is a word that implies combining and mixing—usually metals—but, at the core of the word, the idea of mixing things truly resonated. The playlists that I “mix” each week, and the assemblage of tracks that comprise the list, may seem at turns incongrous—how does that track/composition work after that track/composition? Sometimes I can explain it, other times??...well, many decisions are instinctual—they just “work” with my ear. But also, my deep feeling about the music I listen to and collect each week, and the process that it entails, echoes what the late designer, Charles Eames famously said, “Eventually, everything connects—people, ideas, objects.” And, I would add, music, too—seemingly disparate works, sonically different compositions—also “connect.” This is, has been, and will continue to be the guiding principal each week I collect music to share with you. Again, any given week’s music may seem incongruous (some weeks more than others!), and I totally understand that view, but to me it all fits, it all “connects.”

Checkout this week’s playlist to see this week’s ”mix.” Don't forget that you can listen to all of the music from the last episode, “Otherworldly” (click here). This week's artwork, “mix” was created by yours truly and is a detail of a larger work that you can see here.

As always, thanks for listening!
